Poetry Response #2

The Kitten and Falling Leaves by William Wordsworth

I think that the writer, William Wordsworth,  wrote with great imagery.  This is a pleasant  poetry piece about a young kitten playing with leaves.  He describes the kitten's intensity and excitement when the leaves begin to fall.  "Through the calm and frosty air, of this morning bright and fair",  these  colorful descriptions of the leaves and the crisp cool air helps the reader to feel the changing of the seasons.  Wordworth writes about the kitten and the leaves as a hunter and its prey, as she attacks the falling leaves with ferocity. In this line he states " With a tiger-leap half way, now she meets the coming prey".  As I am reading this I can just imagine a cute little energetic  kitten leaping around, chasing leaves.

Poem Response #3

Dreams by Langston Hughes

http://www.poets.org/viewmedia.php/prmMID/16075

I think that the meaning of the poem, Dreams by Langston Hughes is that you should not let go of your dreams because if you do life will be boring. In the line "Hold fast to dreams, for if they die, life is a broken-winged bird, that cannot fly." I think he's referring to those who do not hold on to their dreams as someone who won't have as much excitement and fun as someone who does.  I think Dreams refers to a person's interests and passion in life and for those who stop following their passion, life can feel empty and sad. In another line of the poem, Langston Hughes wrote, "For when dreams go, life is a barren field, frozen with snow." I think this is symbolic of the emptiness and sadness someone experiences when they lose their passion.

Flowers are blooming
Rain drops lay on petals,
I watch them slide off.

Nature

The whispering wind,
Blows cherry blossoms about.
Birds sing from tree tops.

Everyday life

Close book, school bell rings
Homework done, dishes to do-
Evening with family.

Abstract Poem

Sadness is a raindrop blue whale.

Joy is a sunlight yellow butterfly.
Boredom is a storm cloud grey smoke.
Luck is a shamrock green field.
War is a mud brown evil.
Hope is a milk white cotton ball.
Love is a strawberry red sunset.
Envy is an algae green marsh.
Gratitude is a pansy pink cupcake.
Fun is a popsicle orange summer day.

Man in Cookie Monster costume arrested

Recently in New York's Time Square, a man dressed as the character, Cookie Monster, from "Sesame Street." A family had taken a photo with the him. The man dressed as the Cookie Monster then demanded $2 but the family refused to pay. The 'Cookie Monster' shoved a 2 year old who belonged to the family and started yelling at the family.

I thought it was out of hand for the man dressed as the Cookie Monster was being out of hand. He shouldn't have shoved the toddler, or yelled at the family. The man should have asked for the $2 before they took a picture with him. I don't think $2 is worth shoving a young kid and yelling at a family.

Fish With Clear Blood

Every animal (except this one) has hemoglobin in their blood, which mixes with oxygen and that makes the blood appear red. The recently found fish, the ocellated icefish, has no scales, and gin-clear blood. This fish lives over 3,000 feet deep in the oceans of Antarctica. The ocellated icefish was speculated by scientists and they said that this fish has an unusually large heart compared to most fish, which may help move oxygen through its body using blood plasma as a substitute of hemoglobin.

I think it's a bit strange that the fish has clear blood. I'm confused why it doesn't have red blood. If it does not have hemoglobin and uses blood plasma instead, then that would make a bit more sense, although nothing no scientists have proved that, that is the answer.
